Meet key staff and the Year 7 team
Meet Mr Upton, Head of Years 7 and 8
Mr Knight – Assistant Principal
Hello and welcome to The Hayesbrook School, my name is Mr Knight and I am one of the Assistant Principals. I trained as a PE teacher but have since taught a range of subjects, in particular Geography and Science. I look after the transition of students from primary school to secondary and have a particular focus on ensuring students are recognised for their successes and that any problems students may face are addressed. I am a big music fan and play the drums, love sport and support Liverpool and enjoy reading, particularly Harry Potter!
Ms Ansell – Assistant Principal and SENCO
Hello, I am Ms Ansell, Assistant Principal and SENCO. My office is in the Student Services building. Anyone is welcome in Student Services and some of you may be part of some small group work that takes place in one of the small classrooms. We have a team of Learning Mentors (called TA’s in Primary School ) who you may see in some of your lessons. They are Mrs Finch, Mrs Luff, Mr Tapsfield and Mrs Gurr. I’m not always in my office; I teach English too so obviously love reading. I look forward to meeting you and hearing what you like to read!
Mr Leach - Attendance and Inclusion Officer
Hello, my name is Mr Leach. I am the Attendance and Inclusion Officer. Being in school promptly each day will give you the best opportunity to reach your potential. My main role is to ensure that every child has access to school and provide a range of support to students and their families to make sure this happens.
You will see me each morning and around the school site. Please do speak to me if you have any concerns during your time here at The Hayesbrook School.
Mrs Concannon – Student Manager
I am Mrs Concannon and I am the Student Manager for Years 7, 8 and 9. I have worked at The Hayesbrook School since 2012. I do not teach, my role is to make sure everyone is working hard, the students all feel safe and are happy in school. It's very natural to have things you are unsure about when starting at a new school. If you have any questions or concerns, I am always around and will help in whatever way I can. If you or your parents/ carers would like to speak to me about anything I will always be very happy to hear from you.
Mr Upton - Head of Years 7 and 8
Hello 2020 Year 7 Cohort,
I am the Head of Year 7 and Year 8. Alongside my Head of Year role I am a PE teacher. I have been at The Hayesbrook School for over 7 years and I am incredibly passionate about my work, mainly because I love what I do. I really enjoy getting to know the students I teach, this ensures they feel comfortable and enthused at school. I understand that the shift from primary to secondary school can be a very daunting experience, but that’s where myself and the Year 7 team can help provide a smooth transition. I am really looking forward to welcoming you and your family.
Mrs Cobuz - Tutor 7H
I am Mrs Cobuz, a Science teacher for KS3 and Chemistry specialist for GCSE. I have been teaching at The Hayesbrook School for two years now and I have enjoyed every single day.
I am always to be found in Lab 11 in the Science block, surrounded by all sorts of equipment left over from completed science experiments. I look forward to teaching you all the wondrous things about the world around us. When I am not at school I love to do gardening and to take long walks.
Mr Gore - Tutor 7A
I am the Head of PE and I have been at the school for quite a few years now. I really enjoy teaching PE, watching and coaching different teams, running trips, organising awards ceremonies and basically anything that provides an opportunity to see students thrive and be successful in their sporting aspirations. My favourite sports to teach are rugby, athletics and cricket. My favourite pastimes are golf, tennis, cycling and surfing. You will find me in the main PE building and at lunchtimes on the 3G or in the sports hall.
Mr Tapsfield - Tutor 7Y
I am Mr Tapsfield and I have worked in the Science department for the last four years. I can usually be found in lab eight, trying to get a tricky science experiment to work and not always succeeding!
When I was at secondary school my favourite subjects were Music, Science, Maths and Technology. As I get older, I find that I am becoming increasingly interested in History and Geography. Oh, and coffee…
