Sports report: Rugby - Year 8 vs. St Gregory's
On Wednesday 22 February, Year 8 visited St Gregory's School in Tunbridge Wells for their first rugby match of the new season.
Early on, Isaac ran along the wing but was denied a try 5 metres out. A few phases on Roman broke the line, was tackled but not held and off loaded the ball to Ben Sellors to score the first try. The next try came from Jamie's side step and speed. The forwards played a key part, winning scrums, line outs and rucks. Ben Higgins ran through 2 players to set up the next opportunity which came from a ruck and fast passing for Roman to score. At the end of the first half the score was 17:0.
The domination continued in the second half when the kick went straight to Isaac who ran the entire length of the pitch, dodging tackles, to score. Hayesbrook continued to control the play. Further swift feet and pace secured Jamie’s second try. Ben Higgins made a break, however, good defence prevented him from scoring. Another fast ball from Owen, allowed Ben Sellors to dummy pass, confuse the defence and score his second try. More points were added to the score line from accurate conversion kicks undertaken by Finley. As a consolation, St Gregs were able to breach the defences and stole a last minute try to finish the game at 36:5.
Final score: Hayesbrook 5 - 36 St Gregory's
