The Hayesbrook School Open Evening 2016
Staff and students at The Hayesbrook School were delighted to welcome visitors to our Open Evening on Wednesday 21st September.
The event was for pupils and families thinking of applying to the academy for entry in September 2017.
The school was inundated by enthusiastic families all eager to see what we have to offer. In total the academy will have welcomed nearly 300 families over the past week – all hoping for one of the limited number of places available for September.
Mr Hatley’s introductory talks proved so popular that there was standing room only, with some families returning for the later talk.
The academy’s Samba band provided a backdrop for most of the evening while a treasure hunt led families around the school. They were able to sample activities showcasing the many strengths of the school, both academic and extra-curricular.
Among the activities on offer were a French Café in the Languages department, where visitors could practice their French skills to order croissants and drinks; a poetry competition in the English department; the coca cola taste challenge in Business Studies; make a pencil in Design and Technology, and puzzles and activities in the Maths department.
The Science department had many intriguing activities to delight, from making jelly babies scream, to spying on tiny monsters.
There was no need to encourage anyone to get involved with the activities on offer in the PE department; fun football activities, table tennis, basketball, rugby, and a Frisbee tournament!
Students from the academy’s highly successful Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme set up camp at the front of the school and demonstrated their outdoor cooking skills! Meanwhile students preparing for the life changing World Challenge Expedition sold their handicrafts to raise funds towards the charity side of the work they will do in the Far East.
Applications for places in September 2017 should be submitted by 31st October 2016.
