Sports report: Football - Year 10 vs. Holmesdale

The Hayesbrook Year 10s took a long trip to Snodland to face a Holmesdale side which included a Tottenham and England international.

With bags of confidence from the previous game, which they had comfortably won against Knole Academy 8-2, they were looking forward to this challenge.

It was a nervy start that Hayesbrook made. Holmesdale went ahead in the opening stages of the game. An error of judgement at the back let in the goal; nothing keeper Luke Macro could do about it. However, Hayesbrook weren’t behind for long. Ned Lewis’s driving run saw him shoot from a very tight angle. The shot somehow crept in making the score line 1-1. Holmesdale then replied again to go back in front with a well worked goal. This was the turning point in this fixture. A back pass was played to Luke Macro, who being closed down by Holmesdale players, launched the ball forward, to find Ned Lewis. He controlled it well, and fired a shot into the back of the net to make it 2-2. Minutes later, Ned Lewis scored from Sam Babayale’s throw in, grabbing his 7th goal in 2 games. Just before half time Saul Musengeyi chip from another Sam Babayale throw in gave Hayesbrook a two goal advantage.

Going into the second half, Hayesbrook showed exceptional quality to put the game to bed. Joe Statton’s amazing run was found by the rushing Sam Babayale who crossed in the ball for a simple tap in. Few minutes later, Ned Lewis’s free kick found Tyler Richardson, who coolly chipped the ball to make it 2-6. With moments to go, Holmesdale pulled another back, but the goal was too little, too late.
Sam Babayale had an excellent game, lifting his tally to 7 assists in 2 games. Luke Adams used his abilities to create numerous chances. Mikey Ryan and Ben Grover put in an outstanding shift at the back too.

The boys have progressed through to the next round of the Kent Cup and now await the next round draw, but face a crucial game next week, with rivals Hugh Christie visiting. Well done boys!
