Hayesbrook Students Flying High at Air Show

On 15th July 2016, 23 students from Years 9,10 and 12 joined Mrs Chambers and Mr Reader at Farnborough Air Show as part of Futures Day.

The pupils were invited so that they could have a chance to see the exciting career opportunities available in the dynamic sectors of Aerospace and Defence. The day included a careers fair, interactive zone, demonstrations, lectures and, of course, a spectacular air display.

Assistant Principal Mr Reader writes: "There was a real buzz of excitement around the group as they entered the site and were able to take on board not just how important the industry is to the United Kingdom but also the vast potential of jobs that are open to them in their future lives. Within two minutes of our arrival we were able to listen to Sir Tim Peake talk about his recent experiences on the international space station in front of a huge crowd. The pupils were then allowed to explore the site and absorb as much as possible in the time that we allocated them".

Highlights of the day include Year 10 Jack Smith managing to get a ‘selfie’ with Sir Tim Peake, the Airbus A380 performing an air display along with the new F35 stealth bomber recently imported from America. It was also really useful for the group to speak to universities about taster days, apprenticeships and opportunities to build links outside of school.
