Sports report: Football - Year 10 vs. Hugh Christie & Maplesden

The Year 10’s opened up their season with tough encounters against Hugh Christie and Maplesden Oaks.

Dan Vitler opened up the scoring for the home side, with a wonderful strike from 20 yards that curled into the top corner. However Hugh Christie equalised with a goal before half time. Hayesbrook responded well and had chances to score another but both sides came in at half time with the scores at 1-1.

The 2nd half started evenly and Hayesbrook were fortunate to go into the lead with an own goal. Hugh Christie’s goalkeeper was having an excellent game and on many times kept his side in the game, with some fine saves. Dillon Hickmott, who put in a fantastic performance, eventually made the game comfortable with an excellent strike to beat the keeper.

All boys played their part in the win and will look to progress in the cup on Thursday. Final score 3-1 to Hayesbrook.

After getting the first league win under their belt, the Year 10’s came up against Maplesden Oaks in the Kent Cup. For one reason or another, many of the team from Tuesdays game weren’t available for this match, so the squad was pulled together last minute. The replacements didn’t let the team down though.

Maplesden are predominately a team from Soccer Elite and would be a difficult test. After an even start, Rocco Jackson put through a defence splitting pass to Dillon Hickmott, who did the rest by beating the goalkeeper. 5 minutes later, Rocco Jackson, who was playing on the right, seemed to up his levels with the support from Mr Day on the sidelines, was rewarded for his hard work by finishing a great move. With the scores 2-0 at half time, Hayesbrook knew that they just needed to work hard to progress to the next round. The back 4, including new players Bryn Tutt, Tom Nolan and Tom Ryan were solid throughout. Rob Lawrence captained the side and lead by example with a great performance. Final score 2-0 to Hayesbrook.

Well done on a great start to the season!
