Hayesbrook Students Experience Local Business
On 28th March 2019 we welcomed 23 different businesses to the school for a 30/30 event in association with the Federation of Small Businesses. The students received inspirational talks from Tom Keevil, Speakers for Schools programme and Paul Andrews, CEO Jobs In Kent and radio presenter. Both Paul and Tom spoke passionately to the students about their journey from school leaver through to their current age with a host of eventful and interesting experiences along the way. The students were captivated throughout, and they really benefitted from the emphasis on the soft skills that will be essential for jobs that don’t even exist yet.
The main part of the event was a speed dating experience where the students and Business representatives had 4 minutes to discuss their views on careers. Not only were the students able to find out about the huge variation of visitors in the room, their journeys and advice but also to share their own plans for the future. Businesses represented included Kent Police, Times of Tunbridge Wells, Cryojuvenate, Tonbridge Old Firestation, Knights solicitors, Warners solicitors, TMBC, GoConstruct, Women Who Count Ltd, Limewood Productions and many more.
Feedback from all involved in the event was overwhelmingly positive. Year 13 student Jack commented that “it was the best careers event that I have been involved with, even better than the careers fair”. We very much look forward to the next 30/30 event in the Autumn term and wish to express our thanks to everyone involved.
