Sixth Form Discuss Politics and Parliament with Lord Dholakia
Lord Dholakia, Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats in the House of Lords, came to talk to our Sixth Formers on 20 April.
While his primary area of focus is criminal justice reform, the talk he gave to the Sixth Form was about the House of Parliament. He gave a detailed speech about how parliamentary legislation affects our lives, the process of a Bill passing through parliament and it being implemented as an Act of Parliament.
After his talk, a Q&A session took place in which he answered a range of questions from the Sixth Form students, consisting of topics as diverse as tuition fees and his personal background. His talk was informative and extremely interesting, and gave us a much better idea on how our political system works and why it is important.
