Question from The Hayesbrook School Answered by Famous Authors!
Hayesbrook student Fintan's enquiry was answered during the 'Authors Live' BBC web broadcast.
On Wednesday 4 October, a group of students got the fantastic opportunity of being able to watch a live broadcasted interview as part of BBC 'Authors Live', with authors Non Pratt and Melvin Burgess, and book YouTuber Jean Menzies. Authors Live is a series of live webcasts, presented in partnership with Scottish Book Trust, featuring some of the biggest names writing books for children today. The theme of the discussion was “Authentic Teens in YA” so it focused on realistic portrayals of issues teenagers today deal with and relatable characters in Young Adult fiction.
Prior to the event, all of the participating schools were asked to submit questions which they hoped would be answered by the panel, and luckily one of our questions was one of the few that were chosen! As you can see in the video below, Fintan’s humorous question was chosen and answered very well by the panel.
Fintan said: “In the BBC Authors Livestream, my question: “What interests you about teenage topics (it’s horrible!)” was asked to the authors. I was so excited to hear my question answered. It was great to learn about what motivates authors and what they think about teenage topics. I wasn’t expecting my question to be answered as there were probably tons of admissions, so I am very honoured to have been chosen!”
Miss Kindregan, the new Learning Resource Centre Manager, said: “I am very pleased that the students were able to hear these fantastic authors speak and very proud that one of my student librarian’s questions was chosen! The next broadcast is in January and I hope to have even more students send in questions and watch the broadcast!”
