Team Thompson Triumphs in Hayesbrook Sports Festival

The highlight of the term for students and staff at Hayesbrook was our fantastic Sports Festival day on 7 July.

The annual Sports Festival at Hayesbrook is far from a traditional track and field day, and involves a wide range of fun activities - a festival feel, with food, drink and ice cream stalls, as well as intense sporting competition. The students experienced the 90ft giant inflatable assault course, space hopper races, sack races, water-based team challenges and tug of war, amongst many other fun inclusive team challenges. The track events were strongly contested, with the boys excelling in spirit and performance in these tough events.

The track events were really well represented, with large numbers of students taking part to gain valuable points for their teams, and our elite athletes attempting to gain podium spots and set school records. The only school record to be beaten this year was the Year 7 100m record, previously held by Fynlay Rutherford. This year, the 100m was won by Jack Bowra of team Ali, with a blistering, record breaking time of 13.45 seconds. We would like to congratulate all of the boys who gained a podium finish in their event on the day.

The whole school spent the final hour of the day on the field, cheering their team mates and peers as they competed in the 100M finals, and the much anticipated team relays. A huge well done must go to all of the students that participated and supported the whole school event, and to all the dedicated Hayesbrook staff for their enthusiasm and support throughout the day.

The overall winning team was team Thompson, amassing a whopping 1440 points across the day!
