Inspiring Introduction for 2017 Sixth Form Intake
Last week, Hayesbrook held a learning conference and activity day for our incoming Year 12 cohort for September 2017.
The conference was designed to provide students with a high expectations start to how post-16 education differs to a 14-16 curriculum.
We were delighted to welcome Caner Veli, former Hayesbrook student, Dragons Den entrepreneur and CEO of Liquidproof as a key note speaker. Caner spoke of his memories of Hayesbrook, life as a Sixth form student and then how his life has developed since leaving Hayesbrook.
Students were given a chance to discover the variety of skills, expectations and opportunities available to them in Year 12 and 13. It was a pleasure to welcome Natahsa Stanton from Canterbury Christchurch University, who delivered a work shop on study skills. Mr Bosworth Davies delivered a session on how to write academically and Mr Reader facilitated a session with the current Year 12 students on what it is like to be a Sixth Form student.
A lot of fun was had during the K'NEX-based critical thinking session and then a ‘Ready, Steady, Cook’ challenge, whilst providing the students with a high expectation as to how the path of post-16 education develops from the end of GCSEs.
The students left with booklets from each subject so that they can begin to prepare for the rigour of A-levels and Level 3 vocational qualifications.
