Thrilling Murder Mysteries

Recommended by Miss Kindregan

Murder Mystery books are popular for a reason. They are fast-paced, keep you on the edge of your seat, and are full of cliff hangers, twists, and turns. They are great for people that struggle to finish books because the cliff hangers make you want to continue reading and you know you won’t find out who the culprit is unless you keep reading till the end! The following books are suitable for all Hayesbrook students unless stated otherwise.

High-Rise Mystery by Sharna Jackson is about two siblings, Nik and Norva, who are always looking out for mysteries to solve on their London estate. Things get a lot more complicated when they find the body of their art teacher, they are determined to find the murderer and solve the case.

A Good Girls Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson is about Pippa, a true-crime obsessed Sixth-Form student who decides to investigate a local murder that happened a few years ago for her Extended Project Qualification. She has always had a feeling that something was not quite right about how the investigation went down and who was convicted for the murders so she is determined to find the truth. This tense, exciting thriller is recommend for ages 14+.

Smart by Kim Slater is about Kieran, a highly intelligent Year 9 student who loves crime shows and dreams of becoming a journalist. When a homeless man is found dead and police write it off as an accident, Kieran is determined to find out what actually happened to him, and whether he might have been murdered.

Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson is about Stevie Bell, who has been accepted into the elite, very selective Ellingham Academy, which is famous for an unsolved mystery from the 1930’s. Stevie goes to the school determined to solve that mystery from the past, but when one of her housemates is murdered in the present day, she is faced with two mysteries, which may or may not be linked.

We would love to hear if you give any of these a read!
