About Ellen MacArthur

Ellen MacArthur is the youngest of the sporting icons associated with the five Teams at Hayesbrook, which in itself is a remarkable achievement.

Ellen is most famous for breaking the solo circumnavigation of the world record in 2005. Now retired from sailing she launched her new project in 2010 branded as' The Ellen MacArthur Foundation'.  The Ellen MacArthur Foundation aims to equip young people for work in a world of increasingly limited resources and inspire them to re-think, re-design and build a positive future.  Hayesbrook were delighted that five Year 13 pupils were able to take the opportunity to meet with Ellen at Project Re Design in Oxford during March 2011.

Ellen, just like Team MacArthur, has a charitable link and has set up the 'Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust', which is a national organisation that takes young people aged between 8 - 24 sailing to help them regain confidence, on their way to recovery from cancer, leukaemia and other serious illnesses.
