Key Stage 4 - Evironmental Science

We follow the AQA Specification for GCSE which allows to you study five different topics across the two years as well as completing one piece of coursework based on primary data collection in the field.

The five themes are:

Theme 1: Air, Water and Energy

Theme 2: Rocks and Soils

Theme 3: Organisms and the Environment

Theme 4: Farming, Fisheries and Forestry

Theme 5: Waste and Pollution

This subject combines knowledge and understanding from both Science and Geography and allows students to explore the practical applications for these subjects and complete numerous fieldwork projects based both in the local area and beyond.

From July 2009 the department will offer the GCSEs in line with changes to all specifications. Details of those changes will be added at the beginning of 2009.

Department Summary

The Humanities department is a faculty comprising of the following subjects:- History, Geography, Philosophy and Religion, Philosophy and Ethics, Citizenship, Environmental Science and Travel and Tourism. The department offers courses through all key stages both academic and vocational.

The aims of the department are to enable young people to gain knowledge and understanding of human experience in time, place and society. To enable young people the opportunity to understand the relationships and interdependence of people locally, nationally and internationally
