Dance
What is it about?
The Hayesbrook School's vision for dance is one that provides pupils with curricular and extra curricular opportunities for students to experience, enjoy, understand and value dance and its language. It will develop the pupils' creative and imaginative capacities by allowing them to use their body as a tool for expression and to communicate ideas, feelings and issues. Dance will stretch the pupils' beliefs of their physical and intellectual capabilities. Pupils will be taught through a performance, composition and appreciation framework.
The Hayesbrook School aims to challenge pupils' stereotypes and inhibitions surrounding male dance by offering pupils a range of alternative styles and genres and will use professional works as point of reference wherever possible. The school believes masculinity is a broad and inclusive concept, which can embrace dance within it.
Pupils will learn the important role dance can play in helping you to become physically fit and how to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. Ultimately, it will extend pupils range of choices available to them to be involved in physical activity.
Hood Dance Company
The Hood Dance club is the Hayesbrook School's first ever opportunity for extra curricular dance. It has been created as a junior company to the all-male Kick-Start Dance Company based in Brighton of which the school's very own Mr Bull was part of for three years. The club and company aims to literally 'kick start' boys' dance by promoting dance as a positive activity for boys to participate in. The type of dance varies from contemporary to street and through themes such as Star Wars and Basketball it is hoped pupils will be inspired, challenged and enthused. It is hoped that by participating in this highly athletic and enjoyable activity, any reservations boys might have about dancing will simply fall away.
