School Meals from Caterlink in the Dining Room
We are to delighted welcome you to your catering services at The Hayesbrook School.
We love food and hope you will love what we provide for you in the School Dining Room. Our catering team always welcome the opportunity to talk with you and find out what you like or what you would like to see on our menus. Look out for our special offers and promotions throughout the year. These are examples of some of the promotions we have offered in the past:
We embrace natural ingredients, love seasonal produce and develop ethical trading with many of our suppliers. Our meat is all UK reared and we only use fish from sustainable sources wherever we can. Our menus are refreshed every term to ensure we reflect the changing seasons and trends from the high street. To view one of our weekly menus, click on the link at the bottom of this page.
All food is freshly prepared on site by our team, so if you have a fantastic recipe or dish you would like us to consider, come and talk to us.
Cashless Payment System
The restaurant operates a 'cashless' system for payment of school meal items. Students are issued with a student restaurant ID card (pictured below), which are the same size as a credit card. The cards have a design unique to the school, with the student's name and photograph on the front for identifcation purposes. They contain a microchip with a unique card number linked to your childs name, which is held on the restaurant's till system. As the school operates a completely cashless catering system, the first card is provided free of charge.
When using the restaurant, the student's card is scanned at the till and the value of their purchase is deducted from the balance on the card. Credit is not given under any circumstance. A student can check the balance on their card at any time by scanning their card at a till or the cash-loader.
The default daily spend limit on all a student's lunch card is set at £10. If you would like this limit to be lowered for your son, please contact the school and this can be arranged.
You can top-up a student's cashless restaurant card in the following ways:
- Online using the School Gateway website or smartphone app (available for Android or Apple smartphones) at any time. This also allows you to view the history of food purchases made using your child's restaurant card. There is also a link to the School Gateway website in the Hayesbrook School website banner at the top the screen.
- With cash, at breakfast, break or lunchtime using the cash-loader inside the restaurant, which accepts 10p, 20p, 50p, £1, £2 coins.
If a student loses his card, or his card is damaged by other means, a replacement must be purchased at a cost of £1.50. Students can request these from the ICT Support Office at break or lunch time, with payment required on collection of the new card. Cards which have been lost can be ‘hot listed’ which will stop any one other than the authorised card user using the card. If a card is faulty we will replace this free of charge. In both cases, the funds and information from the previous card is automatically transferred onto the new card.
Free School Meals
Parents of students who already receive a free school meal at their primary school should email firstname.lastname@example.org to advise them of their son's new secondary school. Parents without email should telephone 03000 416464, which will take you through to a KCC contact centre. You should then ask for Free School Meals. New parents can apply online via: www.kent.gov.uk or telephone the above number. £2.35 is allocated to a student's card each day for the purchase of items included in the meal deal ONLY (such as main meals, jacket potato + filling, pasta, fruit, sandwiches, dessert of the day and meal deal drinks). Parents may wish to give their child extra money to top-up in addition to their FSM allowance, which can then be spent on non FSM/meal deal items (such as cakes, biscuits, ice creams, non-meal deal drinks, and breakfast items such as hot paninis, sausage/bacon rolls, etc.). FSM balance cannot be spent during the breakfast session before school (8:30 – 8:45).
