The Hayesbrook School

Sports report: Rugby - Year 7 vs. Bennett

On Tuesday 8th March, the Hayesbrook Year 7 rugby team travelled to Bennett Memorial School in freezing temperatures and wet conditions.

It was apparent from the first 5 minutes that it would be a hard game. Bennett with their strong team, scored two trys in the first half, failing to convert both.  Hayesbrook came close to scoring on two occasions but couldn’t convert the strong running and passing into points. In the second half Hayesbrook won a penalty, and chose to scrum. We dominated the scrum and got clean ball to our back row, who ran very well with it.  Hayesbrook rucked really strongly through 5 phases of play, before Isaac Judd beat three players and broke two tackles to score a try.  Finley Collins skilfully slotted the conversion home from a tough angle.

The whole team played courageously, but the ‘Man of the Match’ decided by the whole team was Finlay Collins, for making two try saving tackles and for kicking points and his consistent tackling and running with the ball.

Final score: Hayesbrook 17 – 7 Bennett.
