Sports report: Football - Year 7 vs. St Gregory's

The Hayesbrook Year 7 team took on St Greg’s in the Kent Cup on Thursday afternoon, in a challenging match in difficult conditions.

On a very muddy pitch, Hayesbrook went 4-0 down in the first 20 minutes.  However the boys responded well and got two quick goals back through Alfie Brind and Fynley Rutherford.

Having got back into the game at half time, Hayesbrook conceded 5 minutes into the second half, although Roman Brophy produced some fine saves leading up to the goal, he couldn’t do anything about the final strike. Hayesbrook kept their cup dreams alive with another goal through Josh Tobin. With the team pushing for another goal, the boys were left short at the back and then conceded another goal, which essentially killed the game. Hayesbrook did score a late consolation goal through Alfie Brind, but unfortunately the damage had been done in the first half.

The team showed great team spirit and effort levels, in particular Tom Powell and Zack Collier. They will look forward to the double header fixture next Tuesday, which could decide whether Hayesbrook make it into the League cup final next May.

Well done boys!

Final score: Hayesbrook 4 - 6 St Gregory's
