Sports report: Football - Year 10 vs. St Gregory's

The Hayesbrook Year 10 football team won their penultimate game of the season by beating St Gregs 2-0 away on Tuesday evening.

It took the boys a while to get used to the boggy conditions after the heavy rain in recent days.  However, once the boys got the ball down, they started playing some excellent football but couldn’t find the final pass to create a clear chance.  Eventually they did break through.  Dan Vitler broke down the left hand side and put in a great cross for Fred Johns to loop his header into the top corner. Hayesbrook started the second half positively and as the light was starting to fade, Fred Johns put the game out of doubt by scoring an acrobatic bicycle kick, which soared into the top right hand corner.  A brilliant piece of individual skill.

Yet again, it was a great team performance, where everyone played their part. The back four and in particular, Oli Plunkett, were outstanding throughout.  This win should have confirmed their place in next year’s final and the boys will now look to finish the season on a high, when they play Mascalls next week.

Final Score: Hayesbrook 2 - 0 St Gregory's
