Sports report: Year 8 & Year 10 Athletics

The athletics teams of Year 8s and 10s took part in the last fixture of the season on Wednesday, with both teams finishing well.

The Year 8 team were boosted by a few late editions and some old faces from last year, including Luke Tappy. The boys taking part for the first time were Dean Mulcahy, Harry Lee Watson, George Smith and David Daughtry. George has impressed in athletics lessons in the sprinting events and won the 200m and came second in the 100m race. Dean and Harry tried many events and in the javelin, came 1st and 2nd respectively, which was an excellent achievement. Marcus Henbest was his reliable self with the long distance races, with Luke and David competing in a variety of events.

The regular Year 10’s represented the school for the last time and went out in style! Sam Crick won both the 800m and 1500m races with ease. Sam Healy threw a huge 11.10m in the shot putt, which won the event, as well as doing well in the javelin. Will Webb and Jake Pinnell competed excellently, with Jake winning his sprinting events. All the boys had 2 representatives in each event, finishing 1st and 2nd in most events. This has been the case in many of the previous athletics fixtures this year. When the final results come back to us, it would be great to see that the year 10’s have ended up winning the league for their year group.

Both the Year 8 and 10 teams finished the athletics season with a 4th place finished in their relay races.

Well done to all boys that have taken part this season and hopefully we will get more involved next year!
