The Hayesbrook School

Sports report: Cricket - Year 7/8 vs. Mascalls

The Hayesbrook Year 7/8 cricket team took on Mascalls School last night and continued their unbeaten run of victories this season.

In beautiful cricket conditions, Hayesbrook batted first and scored a respectable total of 77 off 16 overs. Gautam opened the batting and scored an impressive 34, eventually being caught in the 15th over. He showed great control to see off the opening bowlers and started to place the ball around the field, scoring off the front and back foot.

With one man short, the boys came onto the field looking to defend their target and got off to a great start. Sam Williams bowled tight lines in his 3 overs. However, in the 2nd over of the innings Gautam then produced a bit of magic. He bowled 3 of the Mascalls’ batsmen out in a row, securing a hattrick of wickets, which is very rarely seen! Mali Payne also had a hattrick ball after getting 2 wickets in 2 deliveries. Charlie Wellard and Adam Childs (2) contributed with some fine bowling and were rewarded with their wickets, one of these involving Frankie Ortman taking a fine catch.

In the end Mascalls finished with 65, falling just 12 runs short in their 16 overs, meaning that the teams unbeaten run continues this season. A great effort from all boys involved!

Team: Frankie Ortman, Sam Williams, Gautam Jeneja, Harry Routh (WK), Mali Payne, George Denning, Charlie Wellard, Harvey Thatcher, Adam Childs and Max Darley.
