Sports Report: Football - Year 10 vs. Harris Academy

On the 18th September, Hayesbrook Year 10 played their first match of the new year against Harris Academy, Beckenham, in the Kent Cup.

The starting line-up was Alfie Goater in goal, then a back four made up of Dan Smith (RB) Lewis Overy and Cameron Sone (CB), and Shay Leighton (LB) who also captained this hard working side. We had 2 defensive midfielders in Liam Anderson and David Crouch, with Freddie Harrington plying in front of them (CAM). Malachi Babyle playing on the wing (LM) with Jamie Steeden on the opposite side (RM), and one striker who was Elliot Duncan (ST).

In the first 10 minutes of the first half, David was passed the ball by Freddie and had time to get a shot in, smashing a goal into the top corner from outside the box. However minutes later Harris Academy equalised, slotting the ball past Alife in goal. Things then got worse for Hayesbrook minutes later, when we were pegged back and conceded a second goal to go 2-1 down. Hayesbrook did not let their head drop though and some brilliant closing down from Freddie Harrington lead to him winning the ball and being able to thread a pass through to Elliot, who slotted it passed the keeper on the stroke of half time.

In the second half Hayesbrook came out and dominated the first 10 minutes, with much of the possession, corners and free kicks coming from Liam Anderson and Freddie, who both came close to scoring. After 15 minutes of brilliant football, we finally took the lead with a Shay Leighton free kick that loped in to find Malaci’s head, knocking it down to Elliot to find the back of the net again. In the final stages of the game the visitors attacked down the right wing and put a ball across the box which was on a plate for their striker, but some outstanding defending from Shay saved the day with a strong block. 30 seconds later a long kick form Alife was touched down by Freddie and played in by Malachi to score the final goal of the game - giving Hayesbrook the win. Well done team!
