The Hayesbrook School GCSE Results 2017

The Hayesbrook School is celebrating the Year 11 results released today, with excellent achievements by many of our students.

Students have achieved very well in the reformed GCSE Maths and English courses which, in order to introduce increased rigour in standards of attainment, are now graded 9-1 (replacing A*-G). At the time of going to press the academy’s headline figures show that 65% of students achieved or exceeded the new ‘standard pass’ (grade 4 and above) in both English and Maths – the best results the academy has ever seen.

GCSE English outcomes are the highest the academy has ever seen with 71% of students achieving a ‘standard pass’. In Maths 75% of students achieved or exceeded a ‘standard pass’ - the highest results for three years.

Furthermore there is an extremely pleasing increase in the number of students that have achieved 5 ‘standard passes’ or above, including English and Maths which this year has risen to 64%. The number of students achieving 5 ‘standard passes’ overall has risen to 69%.

As well as an increase in the core subjects, results from individual subject areas show brilliant increases in attainment particularly in Physics, Geography, History, Technology, Graphics, Hospitality and Catering, Performing Arts and Spanish. The percentage of total grades at A*-B (or equivalent) has also increased to a staggering 39%.

We are able to congratulate a large number of boys progressing onto The Hayesbrook Sixth Form and other local 16+ providers as a result of their individual achievements.

Amongst other outstanding results the Academy congratulates the following students:

  • Daniel Bird who achieved: 1xA*, 1xA, 2xB, 1x5, 3xC and 2x8 grades
  • Ilya Freeman who achieved 7xA,1x6,1x7,1x9 and 1xB;
  • Tim Boltun achieved 2x9 (including full marks in GCSE literature), 1x7, 3xA, 2xB, 1xC

Principal, Daniel Hatley said: "I am delighted to be able to congratulate so many boys on their considerable and well deserved achievements. Our initial data shows excellent increases in attainment despite the introduction of GCSE courses that have been reformed in order to ensure increased rigour. This means students have achieved even more through even harder work. It also means that even more students now have the currency they need to move one step further towards the career or university of their choice – something which is extremely important to us at The Hayesbrook School. This year’s results are a reflection of the dedication, commitment and sheer hard work of our brilliant students, fantastic staff and the excellent support of the families we work with."
