The Hayesbrook School

Sports report: Cricket - Year 10 vs. Bennett Memorial

Hayesbrook's Year 10 cricket team played their first game of the season against Bennett Memorial School on the evening of Tuesday 16 May.

Tristain Green who was captaining the side, put Hayesbrook into bat. Gautum and Abdul opened the batting, both getting off to a steady start. Unfortunately Gautum had to leave only 10 minutes into starting the match and knew that he had to try and score as many runs as opening bat. He hit a quickfire 6 runs, including an excellent shot that went for 4 and then was bowled by Bennett’s opening bowler. That bought Tristian into bat, who played extremely well, with a couple of boundaries that contributed to his 12 runs. Abdul also hit two 4’s on his way to a total of 10 runs. Wellard also came in and slogged a huge 6, but was then caught soon after. In the end, Hayesbrook finished on 48 runs from their allotted 14 overs, with all players getting into bat.

Hayesbrook knew that it would be a tough score to defend, but with Abdul and Tristian bowling tight lines in the first few overs, there was hope. Abdul bowled 2 of Bennett’s batsmen out in his first over to bowl a double wicket maiden. Tristian was very unlucky not to get a wicket and finished with figures of 3 overs only going for 3 runs. Eventually, Bennett hit the winning runs with a shot that went to 4 with 3 overs left to spare.

Next week the team will be boosted by having Gautum for the whole match and we also hope Aiden Jones will be available for selection, which are two very important players. Well done boys!
