Year 7s Experience Seasonal Organic Cooking at Bore Place

On Thursday 27 April 2017, twenty Year 7 students visited Bore Place near Chiddingstone for a seasonal cooking day.

Bore place is a beautiful venue in Kent and home to the Commonwork Trust and Commonwork Organic Farm.  Students were able to experience a range of new activities including harvesting their own toppings for their pizza from the organic vegetable garden, milling their own flour, and working in a professional kitchen to make their stuffed crust organic pizzas and rhubarb crumble (and yes, the rhubarb tasted amazing and most of the boys agreed!).  There was a focus on how to be sustainable and the importance of being able to grow and eat your own food.

The day ended with a tour of the dairy farm where we all got to see the cows and calves up close.  The students really enjoyed the farm tour (except for maybe the smell!) and using the huge commercial dishwasher in the professional kitchen! It was great to see the boys tasting, trying and enjoying new foods, and we will be visiting again as part of the Activity Days in July.
