Sports report: Rugby - Year 8 vs. Bennett Memorial

Wednesday 29 March saw the Hayesbrook Year 8s out to try and secure a second victory of the season against rivals Bennett Memorial School.

Bennett kicked off the match. Jack Stone caught the ball but unfortunately got tackled at half way. Owen span the ball out to Jamie who then side stepped through one player and passed the ball to Ben to make a ruck. Great rucking by the forwards successfully secured the ball. Owen passed to Joe B and another ruck was formed. However this initial pressure did not produce any score and Bennett counter rucked the ball. Now with possession, they ran half of the pitch to score the first try. Hayesbrook were left reeling and allowed Bennett to run more than half the pitch and score again.

Hayesbrook suffered under further pressure and Bennett seized their opportunities.  When Fin took a kick-off, Bennett's poor handling finally gave us a chance.  The ball was quickly passed out to Roman, who made a lot of ground. Jamie passed Ben the ball, securing Hayesbrook’s first try. The first half was nearly over and with a break though Owen was able to add a second try. However, by half time - with a squad missing some of its players – the score was 10:33

After a positive and encouraging team talk by Mr Upton, Hayesbrook started strong, but Bennett were the better side today and they then scored two more trys. Never giving up, we were in their half and applying more pressure. Roman caught the ball and scored. The final score was 10-46 in Bennett's favour.
