The Hayesbrook School

Sports report: Rugby - Year 9/10 vs. Bennett Memorial

Hayesbrook played their first rugby game of the season on Thursday, with a mixed team of Year 9s and 10s.

Although the team knew it would be a tough game against Bennett, they turned up in high spirits after an excellent training session on the Wednesday.

In windy conditions, Hayesbrook started the game brightly, strong in the tackle and rucking well.
Unfortunately Bennett had 2 very quick wingers, who we struggled to deal with. One of these broke down Hayesbrook’s left and opened the scoring with a good try. The same player then converted to take a 7-0 lead. The team went through a difficult period, conceding a number of tries in quick succession.

The second half started with Hayesbrook down 36-0, but began with a positive spell, delaying the Bennett onslaught. With the score at 50-0, the referee eventually stopped the game early. The boys were up against a strong Bennett side and if they play with similar effort and commitment, will do well against the other schools this season.

Special mention to Kieron Skinner and Finaly Garrigan-Twiford, who kept the side going throughout the game.

Well done boys!

Final score: Hayesbrook 0 - 50 Bennett Memorial
