Sports report: Basketball - Year 8 vs. Judd / Sackville

The Year 8 Hayesbrook basketball team recently travelled to both Judd School and Sackville School for their first fixtures of the season.

The team's first match was away to Judd School - their first competitive match of the season. The team got off to a great start, with Roman Brophy and Henry Whysall scoring early baskets, and putting pressure on the opponents. Roman and Toby were excellent in defence, blocking shots and jumping for rebounds. Josh Tobin was stealing the ball, and intercepting the oppositions passes for fun, as too was Paimann Mohammad. Billy Hodges contributed well from the bench in the first quarter, as the team found themselves 10 points up after 10 minutes.

The second half was much of the same, with Josh and Paimann adding to the consistent scoring of Roman and henry, and Billy and Toby remaining unpassable defence. The game ended with a Hayesbrook victory, a great result for the boys.

Final score: Hayesbrook 28 - 4 Judd

Despite missing some key players, the team travelled to The Sackville School on Monday of this week. Jack Stone and Joe Rowe stepped in and did a fantastic job, both scoring baskets on their debut. Hayesbrook got off to a flyer again, with Paimann scoring 3 baskets in the first two minutes. After a calming first quarter team talk from Mr Gore, Roman and Henry both found their shooting boots, and started adding to the score with flair in the lay-ups and 2 pointers. The team were strong in all areas, and went on to win the match 24 - 2.

Final score: Hayesbrook 24 - 2 Sackville School
