The Hayesbrook School

Another Successful French Exchange Trip

Miss Chandler took 10 students from Years 9 - 11 to stay with French students and their families in Fouquières-les-Lens, outside of Lille.

During the week, students were welcomed by the mayor at the town hall, experienced life in a French school, and formed strong bonds on fun-filled day trips to Lille city and Bruges.

Report from Ashley Sonnex (Year 10):

"We got to France and after saying ‘hello’ we were off to live for a week with the families. This bit of the exchange can be the most awkward but I used the language I’d learnt in school and gave it a shot! It turned out to be very useful for settling in with the family, even saying things like "merci beaucoup" after eating and "bonne nuit" before going to bed. It was so much fun and hope I can take part again next year".

Tears were flowing as we boarded the bus for Calais and we’re already looking forward to welcoming our French students back in the spring to continue the strong link we have built for the seventh year running.
