The Hayesbrook School

Sports report: Football - Year 11 vs. TWGSB

After receiving a bye in the last round, the Year 11 football team took on a strong TWGSB side in the 4th round of the KSFA Under 16 French Cup.

It was always going to be a difficult game, but we weren’t helped by players being unavailable to play. However, George Bentley stepped in to play one of his only games for the school. He was superb throughout, and it is clear to see why he has been offered an extension on his contract at Brighton & Hove Albion F.C.

Hayesbrook went a goal down in the first half, but after soaking up a lot of pressure, managed to get to half time with the scores at 1-0. A reshuffle in formation seemed to have helped things and Hayesbrook started the 2nd half brightly, playing some good football and were unlucky to have a goal disallowed for offside. Unfortunately TWGSB went straight down the other end and scored to make it 2-0. The boys didn’t let their heads drop and responded brilliantly by getting a goal back - an excellent header from the captain, Harrison Mayhew, after a precise free kick from Rocco Jackson.

The quality of TWGSB shone through though when their striker scored his third of the match with 10 minutes left with a fine finish. This effectively put the game to bed, but the Hayesbrook boys can be pleased with their efforts. The back 4 were excellent throughout and came under immense pressure for the majority of the match, but the Man of the match goes to George Bentley, who made a number of magnificent saves to keep Hayesbrook in the game. The boys hope to get revenge when they play Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys again in the 3rd round of the Kent Invicta trophy. Well done boys!

Final score: Hayesbrook 1 - 3 TWGSB
