The Hayesbrook School

Sports report: Football - Year 7 vs. Bennett Memorial

The new Year 7 team travelled to their first shool match in Blazer and Tie, and turned up looking professional and ready for business.

After a quick warm up, and inspirational team talk from Mr Gore, the game got underway - with some great attacking stuff from Hayesbrook, and a few close chances saved by the Bennett keeper. In our own goal, George Stevenson was a big presence in the early part of the match, and kept 2 close chances out. Hayesbrook went 1-0 down after 12 minutes, to a very well finished strike from the Bennett centre forward, but they didn’t lose their heads. Captain William Oakes was positive and encouraging to the rest of his team – and through hard work, and a lovely bit of skill, equalised for Hayesbrook just before half time.

The second half was a real thriller, with some fantastic play from Mackaye Crawford, Joseph Curry and Sam Hodgson, showing that school boy football can be played with the ball on the deck! The defensive unit worked very hard to keep Bennett out, with Jake Oakeshott standing strong in the centre of that defence, and our keeper was called on in the last 5 minutes to make 4 great saves to keep the score even.

All of the team made their contributions, and all deserve to be congratulated on gaining an important point, for a draw away from home against tough opposition in the West Kent League.

Final Score: Hayesbrook 1 - 1 Bennett Memorial
